Crawford County / City of Roberta Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning

The City of Roberta and Crawford County, with its rural, laid-back atmosphere, is seeking to promote a greater sense of community through policy decisions and project implementation, which incorporates pedestrian facilities, bicycle routes, multi-use trails, and golf cart paths.  While many of the community’s efforts are at the conceptual and planning stages, the desire for and commitment to bicycle and pedestrian facilities is a fundamental theme of the recently completed Joint Comprehensive Plan Update.

Some of the community’s anticipated projects include:

  • Design new and reconstructed roadways to accommodate multiple functions, including pedestrian facilities, parking, bicycle routes, and public transit as well as local vehicular circulation.
  • Address the location, design, and landscaping of residential and non-residential streets, trails, and paths as one of the most important components contributing to the character, structure, and development pattern of the community.
  • Integrate golf cart paths and associated facilities in downtown Roberta and surrounding in-town neighborhoods.
  • Incorporate bike lanes and signage along sections of Highways 42 and 80 that will connect with ones planned for Byron and Warner Robins.
  • Cooperate with Georgia DOT to resurface and upgrade a walking trail in Roberta.
  • Promote the execution of Phase I of Keep Roberta-Crawford Beautiful railroad square reclamation project, which includes a park, fountain, and gazebo.
  • Support the creation of a community-wide bike-pedestrian network through the development of a Local Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan that will tie into the Middle Georgia Regional Bike and Pedestrian Facilities Plan.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of expanding the sidewalk system and multi-use trails to connect the City of Roberta with the unincorporated Knoxville area.
