Regional Bike and Pedestrian Plan
Middle Georgia Regional Development Center (RDC), with funding from
the Georgia Department of Transportation, devised a Regional Bike
and Pedestrian Plan covering the 11-county region in Middle Georgia.
The RDC’s goal was to focus on the subject areas that would generate
the most interest and have the most impact in our region. The Middle
Georgia Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan focused on the following topics:
- Establishing a System of Interregional Bike and Shared-Use Trails
connecting major regional points of interest;
- Improving accessibility to the downtown areas in the region;
- Establishing supporting marketing/outreach programs;
- Establishing Safe Routes to School programs in several
school districts; and
- Establishing two pilot local bicycle/pedestrian plans.

The communities selected that are further examined in the document
are Milledgeville-Baldwin County and Eatonton-Putnam County. Each of
these communities contained attributes that would be enhanced by the
establishment of a bicycle/pedestrian facility system, and had the
initial public and private support to implement the recommendations
from the Plan. |
