Twiggs County / Cities of Danville & Jeffersonville Planning

In Fiscal Year 2004, the Georgia Department of Transportation contracted with the Middle Georgia RDC to compile a sidewalk survey database for the Cities of Jeffersonville and Danville. The survey consisted of identifying sidewalk condition, sidewalk surface construction material, sidewalk width, beginning and end points, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), etc. as well as creating a base map of the city’s sidewalk network.

Additionally, the following observations were made from the survey regarding bicycle and pedestrian-friendly resources within the two communities: availability of pedestrian crossings, bicycle racks, trash cans, street lighting, greenspace; connectivity to downtown merchants, points of interest, schools, neighborhood subdivisions; areas served by good sidewalk network; areas where sidewalk network requires improvement; and finally, areas where connectivity of the network should be expanded.

With Twiggs County  and the Cities of Jeffersonville and Danville, prepared to begin the Comprehensive Planning process in Summer 2007, the results of the sidewalk survey will be utilized to identify issues and opportunities for improving and expanding bicycle and pedestrian facilities within the communities.
